Percy Allison Hopewell was born in 1896 at Granby and was the of George a farmer and baker and Maria Hopewell née White of Granby, Nottingham His father George was born in 1859 at Granby and his mother Maria White was born in 1859 in Nottingham they were married in 1884 at Nottingham and went on to have 7 children, sadlyone died in infancy or early childhood their surviving children all born in Granby were;- Mary b1885, Nellie b1887, Robert John b1890, Maurice George b1893, Percy Allison b1896, and Hilda Evelyn b1898. In the 1911 census the family are living at Granby and are shownas George 52 yrs a farmer and baker and dealer in bread, he is living with his wife Maria 52 yrs and their children, Mary 26yrs mothers helper, Nellie 24 Wesleyan Deaconess, Robert John 21 yrs farmers son working on farm, Maurice John 18 yrs farmers son working on farm, Percy Allison 15 yrs a scholar, and Hilda Evelyn 13 yrs at home. Percy's probate was proven on 11th November 1919 in Nottingham and shows him as Percy Allison Hopewell of Granby, Private in His Majesty's Army, died on or since 28th March 1918 in France, his effects of £103, 12 shillings and 6 pence were left to George Hopewell farmer (his father)
Private Percy Allison Hopewell enlisted at Bootle whilst residing at Waterloo, Liverpool. He served with the 15th battalion London Regiment (civil Service Rifles). He was killed in action on 28th March 1918, having no known grave his name ic commemorated on the Arras Memorial (Bay 10).
