Percy White was born in 1894 at Eccles, Lancashire and was the son of Frank a corn merchant and farmer and Eunice Ann White née Mitchell of Chapel Hill Farm, Whaplode Drove village, Wisbeach. His father Frank was born in 1869 at Rotherham and his mother Eunice Ann Mitchell was born in 1862 at Salford, Lancashire. They were married in 1891 at Bolton and went on to have three children, Frank b1893 Eccles, Percy b1894 Eccles and Florence b1902 Spalding, Lincolnshire. In the 1911 census the family were living at Chapel Hill Farm, Whaplode Drove village Wisbeach and are shown as Frank 42 yrs a corn merchant and farmer he is living with his wife Eunice Ann 49 yrs and their children, Frank 18 yrs a bank clerk , Percy 17 yrs a bank clerk and Florence 9 yrs a scholar.
Private Percy White enlisted at St Paul's London whilst residing at Wisbeach he served with the 26th (Service) battalion (Bankers) Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 18th September 1916 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
Article published 25th October 1916 in the Newark Advertiser :- A native of Spalding district and spent two years in Newark as a bank clerk at Barclays. Joined the Royal Fusiliers two years ago and had been in France about four months. Went over the top on Sept. 15th and when the roll was called, was among the missing. News received in a letter from Pte. Wilyman, a comrade in the Royal Fusiliers and prior to the war a clerk in Lloyd’s bank at Newark.
