Family History

He was the son of Arthur and Mary Alice Middleton and the brother of Mary Alice, Harold and Ernest Middleton. In 1911 they lived at 15 Glapton Road Meadows Nottingham. He was the husband of Mabel (née Swift) Middleton.

Military History

Private Arthur Middleton, enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the North Staffordshire Regiment, he was serving with the 11th Battalion Manchester Regiment when he was killed in action on 24th November 1916. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Obituaries published 7th December 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post ;- “MIDDLETON. – Killed in action, November 24th, 1916, Private Arthur Middleton, the dearly-loved son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Fox, 199 Waterway-street, Nottingham. Not our will, but thine O Lord. “MIDDLETON. – Killed in action, November 24th, 1916, Private Arthur Middleton, the dearly loved husband of Mabel Middleton (née Fox).
