Leonard Gilding

Sergeant Leonard Gilding, 6th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, died of wounds on 23rd August 1917. He is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery. grave reference XVIII D 3A

Death notices published 6th September 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “GILDING. – Died of wounds, August 23rd, Sergeant L. Gilding, K.O.Y.L.I., aged 24. What peaceful hours we have enjoyed, how sweet his memory still, but he has left some aching hearts this world can never fill. – From his sorrowing mother, father, sisters, & brothers. “GILDING. – Died of wounds, August 23rd, Sergeant L. Gilding, K.O.Y.L.I., aged 24, dearly-lived fiancée of Gertrude Lewis. The unknown grave is the bitterest blow, none but aching hearts can know.” In memoriam published 22nd August 1920 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “GILDING. – In loving memory of Sgt. Leonard Gilding, 21035 K.O.Y.L.I., died of wounds August 23rd, 1917, aged 24. Do not ask us if we miss him, none can fill his vacant place, but he died for England's glory and the honour of his race. – From loving mother, father, sisters, brothers, and Mr. Pitt. “GILDING. – In loving memory of Sgt. Leonard Gilding, 21035 K.O.Y.L.I., died of wounds August 23rd, 1917. Cherished memories. – Fiancée Gertie. “GILDING. – In affectionate memory of Sgt.
