Chambers was killed in action as the British army followed up the withdrawal of the Germans to the newly-built Hindenburg Line. His body was never recovered but his name was commemorated on the Arras memorial.
In memoriam published 3rd May 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “CHAMBERS. – In loving memory of Pte. H. S. Chambers, Northumberland Fusiliers, killed in action May 3rd, 1917, only son of Mrs. A. E. Chambers and the late W. W.
