Joseph Stovin was born 1897 in Tibshelf and was the son of Charles and Elizabeth Stovin née Stringfellow of 5 Holme Street, Meadow Lane, Nottingham. His father was born in 1869 in Pilsley Derbyshire and his mother was born in 1866 in Tibshelf they were married C1889 and went on to have the following children , Elizabeth b1891 Nottingham, Edith b1891 Dronfield, Derbyshire, William b1894 Stonebroom, Derbyshire, Joseph b1897 Tibshelf , Alice b1899 Tibshelf, John b1902 Tibshelf, Edward b1904 Nottm, amd May b1907 Nottingham. In 1911 the family lived at 5 Holme Road Meadow Lane Nottingham and were shown as Elizabeth 45 yrs head of the family no occupation listed, she is living with her children Elizabeth 20 yrs a machinist, Edith 18 yrs a pinafore ironer, William 17 yrs a ticket puncher, Joseph 14 yrs an errand boy, Alice 12 yrs a scholar, John 9 yrs a scholar, Edward 7 yrs a scholar and May 4 yrs. Elizabeth later moved to Peter's Row, Nottingham Road, Daybrook, Arnold, Nottingham.
Private Joseph Stovin, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment. He landed in France on 27th August 1915 and he died of wounds on 21st January 1916 he is buried in Sailly-Sur-La-Lys Canadian Cemetery,
Death notice published 26th January 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “STOVIN. - Killed in action, January 22nd [sic], Private J.
