Family History

Bernard Clarke was born in 1895 he was the son of Charles a tailor and Ann Clarke née Kirkman of Council Offices Church Street Eastwood Nottinghamshire. Charles was born in 1859 at Eastwood, Ann Kirkman was born in 1861 at Loscoe, they were married on 16th July 1879 at the parish church at Codnor, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 65 Queen Street, Eastwood, Charles 52 yrs and a tailor is living with his wife Ann 50 yrs and 4 of their children including Bernard 17 yrs a shop assistant for Boots. He was engaged to a Miss Cawdron.

Military History

Private Bernard Clarke served with 3rd battalion Royal Fusiliers, after 18 months service in Salonika he was granted a month's leave but was taken ill with Malaria en route for home. He died from pneumonia and meningitis and lies in Eastwood Cemetery.
