Lewis William Butler was baptised on 7th July 1895 at Idridglehay, Derbyshire, he was the son of Job a farm labourer and Hannah Mary Butler née Hodgkinson of 1, Princes Street, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. Job was born in 1876 at Biggin, Derbyshire, Hannah Mary Hodgkinson was also born in 1876 at Kirk Ireton, Derbyshire, they were married on 30th April 1895 at Idridgehay, Derbyshire, they went on to have 7 children. In 1911 the family are living at Engine Yard, Newthorpe, Nottinghamshire, Job is 35 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Hannah Mary 35 yrs and their children, Lewis William 15 yrs is an errand boy.
