Family History

Henry (Harry) Hodgkinson was born in 1887 at Greasley he was the son James a coal miner and Eliza Hodgkinson née Riley of 43 Princes Street Eastwood Nottinghamshire. James Hodgkinson was born in 1861 at Brinsley, Eliza Riley was born in 1862 at Eastwood, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 12 children, sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 43 Princess Street, Eastwood, James is 50 yrs and a coal miner, he is living with his wife Eliza 49 yrs and 6 of their children including Henry 24 yrs. single and a clay miner.

Military History

Private Henry Hodgkinson enlisted in Ilkeston whilst residing at Eastwood, he served with 8th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He died of wounds on 17th November 1916 and is buried at Puchevillers British Cemetery, France.
