Family History

John Mullins was born in 1882 he was the son of the late John a coal miner hewer and Bridgett Ann Mullins née Tierney of 70 Princes Street Eastwood Nottinghamshire John Mullins was born in 1853 in Ireland, he died in 1908 he was 55 yrs of age, Bridgett Ann Tierney was born in 1861 at Liverpool, they were married on 26th December 1881 at Nottingham, they went on to have 7 children. In 1911 John is living with his widowed mother at 70 Princess Street, Eastwood, they are shown as Bridgett Ann 50 yrs a widow, she is living with her son John 28 yrs a coal miner hewer, her daughter Catherine 20 yrs a domestic servant and a further son Tom 18 yrs a coal miner loader.

Military History

Private John Mullins enlisted at Pontefract Yorkshire. He served for four years first with the King's Royal Rifle Corps before transferring to the 18th battalion Gloucestershire Regiment. He was severely wounded in September 1916. He was killed in action on 11th September 1918 and is buried at Sailly- Labourse Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

Extra Information

His brother Thomas served in Palestine with the South Nottinghamshire Hussars for five years suffering bouts of dysentery and enteric fever.
