Family History

Arthur Parker was born in 1895 at Eastwood, he was the son of John a coal miner loader and Emma Jane Parker née Birkin of 113 Nottingham Road, Eastwood. John Parker was born in 1868 at Ropsley, Lincolnshire, Emma Jane Birkin was born in 1871 at Eastwood, they were married on 20th April 1889 at St Mary's Church, Eastwood, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 23 Bishop Street, Eastwood John is 43 yrs of age and a col miner loader, he is living with his wife Emma Jane 40 yrs and their seven children, Arthur is 16 yrs of age and is a coal miner ganger.

Military History

Private Arthur Parker enlisted at Hucknall, he served with the 15th battalion Durham Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 24th October 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial.
