Family History

Gilbert Henry Wood was born on 9th August 1884 he was the the second son of the late John a publican and Priscilla Wood née Riley of the Moon and Stars at Eastwood Nottinghamshire. John was born in 1851 at Loscoe, he died in 1910 aged 59 yrs , Priscilla Riley was born in 1851 at Newthrope, they were married on 5th June 1870 at Holy Trinity Church, Kimberley they had 8 children. In 1911 the family are living at the Moon and Stars, Eastwood, Priscilla Wood is 60 yrs a widow and Inn Keeper, living with 3 of her children. Gilbert Henry Wood married Adelaide Bertha Bothamley (born 25th August 1881 ) on 27th July 1908 at St Mary's Church, Eastwood, they lived at School House, Clifton Road, Shefford, and had a daughter Sylvia Edna born 2nd February 1909 at Greasley. In 191 Gilbert Henry is living at Roxton, St Neots, Huntingdon, he is 27 yrs and a school master, he is living with his wife Adelaide 28 yrs and their daughter Sylvia Edna 2 yrs Commencing 24th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 28 shilling and 11 pence a week.

Military History

Private Gilbert Henry Wood enlisted in Bedford whilst residing at Roxton, Bedfordshire and served with 7th battalion Bedfordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 15th March 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
