Oscar Cecil Woodward was born in 1890 he was the son of William Seth a stationary engine driver and Diana Woodward née Pearce, of 16 Queen Street, Langley Mill. William Seth was born in 1861 at Farnsfield, Diana Pearce was born in 1859 at Brinsley, they were married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they had 9 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 16 Queen Street, Langley Mill, William Seth is 50 yrs and a stationary engine driver, he is living with his wife Diana 52 yrs and 4 of their children including Oscar Cecil 21 yrs a coal miner hewer. Oscar Cecil married his wife Frances Hellaby on 16th November 1912 at St Marys Church, Eastwood, they lived at 130 Brook Cottages, Langley Mill.

Military History

Corporal Oscar Cecil Woodward enlisted at Ilkeston and served with the 9th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. he died of wounds on 26th August 1918 and is buried at Bagneux British Cemetery, Gezaincourt, France .
