He was the son of George Arthur and Phoebe Potter and the brother of Florrie, Bertha, Mary, Francis, John, Samuel, Arthur and Nellie Potter. In 1901 they lived at 2 Atlas Terrace Kirk White Street Meadows Nottingham.

Military History

Pte. George William Potter, enlisted in Nottingham, he initially served with service number 20070 in the Hussars of the Line Regiment , later transferring to the 1/4th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 17th November 1917 in Egypt . He is buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.

In memoriam published 17th November 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “POTTER. – In ever-loving memory of Pte. George Potter, who died of wounds in Palestine, November 17th, 1917. It's only those who have loved and lost that understand war's bitter cost. Sadly missed.
