He was the son of William and Julia Stokes and the brother of Edith Alice, Doris Edna and Frances May Stokes. In 1911 they lived at 53 Cremorne Street Meadows Nottingham. He was the husband of Maria Elizabeth (née Dowell) Stokes and the father of William C Stokes. Maria married Charles H Smith in 1921 and they lived at 159 Noel Street Hyson Green Nottingham.
