Family History

Son of John William Davis and Florence (nee Wall) he was born in Worsboro Dale Yorkshire in 1899. He had a younger brother George Rupert. John William worked as an iron founder and the family lived at No 64, Edward St., Grantham, Lincs. in 1911. He was the grandson of George and Mary Ann Wall of Gedling

Military History

William enlisted at Grantham in Lincolnshire on 23 June 1916. He started out as Private 64648 with the North Staffordshire Regiment then transferred to the Sherwood Foresters as Private 103906 in September 1918. He embarked for France 24 September 1918. He died of wounds received in action in his 21st year and is buried at Tincourt New British cemetery, France and is also commemorated on his maternal grandparents grave in Gedling churchyard. He was eligible for the British and Victory medals and these were sent to his parents
