Family History

Horace was born in Nottingham in 1899 the son of William Edward Tyas and Sarah A Rudkin. He had two sisters and in the 1911 census he is living at 11 Park Lane,Pinxton Derbyshire along with his father, and his grandparents (there is no mention of his mother so she may have died ) He is 12 years of age and a scholar at Pinxton school

Military History

He enlisted at Nottingham on 15th May 1917 and served with the 10th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment. He gave his age as 18 years and 103 days and his occupation as miner and his address as 12 Fitzroy Terrace,Milton Street,Bulwell. He served on home duties between 15th May 1917 and 29th March 1918. He went to France with his battalion on 30th March 1918 until 9th July 1918 when he was wounded in the neck by a gun shot. He was transferred back to England but died of his wounds and pneumonia on 14th July 1918.
