Family History

Alfred Par was born in 1897 at Balderton and was the son of George Allan a railway gate keeper and Sarah Ann Parr née Forinton of South Muskham Newark Nottinghamshire. His father George Allen was born in 1861 in Lincolnshire and his mother Sarah Ann Forinton was born in 1863 at Boston, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1883 at Boston and went on to have 6 children, sadly three died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were George William b1885 Boston, Ada May b1895 Newark and Alfred b1897 Balderton. In the 1911 census the family are living at South Muskham village and are shown as George Allen 50 yrs a railway gate keeper form the Great Northern Railway, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 48 yrs and their children, George William 26 yrs a farm labourer, Ada May 16 yrs no occupation listed and Alfred 14 yrs a bakers assistant Alfred married his wife Daisy Emily Bass in 1917 at Boston, they lived at 25 New Town Road Bishop's Stortford Hertfordshire.

Military History

Private Alfred Parr enlisted at Lincoln, originally serving with the 3rd/1st battalion Lincolnshire Yeomanry he was serving with the 1/7th battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) when he died of wounds at the 46th Casualty Clearing Station and is buried at Noyou New British Cemetery, Oise, France.

Article published 27th March 1918 in the Newark Advertiser :- Youngest son of Mr & Mrs George Parr of South Muskham. Husband of Daisy Emily Parr, 25 New Town Road, Bishops Stortford. Born Muskham, joined Lincolnshire Yeomanry three years ago, later transferred to 7th Londons and had been out in France for six months. Died of wounds in No. 46 Casualty Clearing Station.
