Harold Ackworth Leggett

Leggett died in the UK from the effects of trench fever. He was a former officer who joined up again in 1914. In the list of High School Old Boys who served in the forces during the war he is recorded as having been wounded and invalided, eventually being demobilised in 1919. He is not listed by CGWC. There is some discrepancy over which battalion he was in as the list records 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters, the Roll states 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters. The Record of War Service 1914 – 1918 of Officer Training Corps public School Officers and Other Members of the Staffs (1919) lists H A Leggett as Major, then outlines his war service stating that he was a Captain in 11th Sherwood Foresters from October 1914, then Major in December 1914. He was transferred to 13th Sherwood Foresters and then to 14th Sherwoods, proceeding to France in April 1917. He was wounded and invalided home in July 1917, then becoming the Commandant of the Officers’ School Minor Tactics at Ripon.
