Family History

He was the elder son of the late Henry Greenfield of Southwell, Nottinghamshire and Mrs. Greenfield of Edenmore, Woking. He was the brother of Charles Richard Maltby Greenfield.

Military History

He entered St. Bartholomew's Hospital and shortly afterwards was given a nomination for the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich where he became senior sergeant. Gazetted to the Royal Field Artillery in August 1916 he went to the front in September with 'B' Bty 242nd Bde. On August 15th 1917 he was hit by a sniper while acting as Forward Observation Officer near Billebeke and died on August 17th in the Third Canadian Casualty Clearing Station.
