He was the husband of Mabel Hallam of 2 Olive Square, Palm Street, New Basford. In the 1911 census he is shown as being 23 yrs and is single and a private soldier serving with the 1st battalion Yorks and Lancaster Regiment , stationed in India.
Private Norman Hallam, enlisted at Doncaster on 3rd February 1904 , he was 18 yrs and 9 months of age and served with the 2nd Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, he died of wounds on 24th October 1914 and is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery.
In memoriam published 24th October 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HALLAM. – In loving memory of Private Norman Hallam, York and Lancasters, who died of wounds in Boulogne Hospital, October 24th, 1914, beloved husband of Mabel Hallam.
