Family History

George Richard Billson was born in 1894 he was the son of the late Frederick William a iron turner and Maria Billson née Kerry he was the brother of May, Laura and Frederick Billson, of 34 Hawksley Road, Hyson Green, Nottingham. Frederick William was born in 1865 at Leicester he died in 1907 aged 42 yrs, Maria Kerry was born in 1865 at Leicester, they were married in 1887 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they went on to have 6 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 7 Arthur Terrace Independent Street Radford Nottingham Maria is 47 yrs a widow and a charwoman, she is living with 4 of her children including George 17 yrs a hoist attendant.

Military History

Corporal George Richard Billson, enlisted at Nottingham, served with 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles), he was killed in action on 18th/19th May 1917 during a raid on Nash Valley near Loos, France. He is buried in Maroc British Cemetery, Grenay Grave Reference: II O 16
