Family History

He was the brother of Elizabeth (later Fryer), Mabel and Mary Edith Allwood. In 1911 they lived, along with Elizabeth's husband Charles Fryer, at 53, Brushfield Stree,t Hyson Green, Nottingham.

Military History

George Allwood enlisted into the 7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters on 29th September 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France 25th February 1915 and whilst there, suffered with otitis media (middle ear infection) and was treated at No. 17 Casualty Clearing Station 17th September 1915. He was admitted to No. 16 General Hospital, Boulogne, France, 19th September 1915 and transported to England on the 25th September 1915. On recovery, he returned to France 13th August 1916, and was transferred to the 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters. He was awarded the Good Conduct Badge 23rd December 1916 and was appointed Lance Corporal 21st April 1917. He was killed in action whilst serving in the trenches at Hervilly, France. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial Bay 7
