Walter Adlington was born in 1893 he was the son of the late George Adlington a coal miner and Hannah Adlington née Robinson of of Mansfield Woodhouse. George was born in 1862 at Sutton in Ashfield, he died in 1896 aged 34 yrs, Hannah Robinson was born in 1860 at Codnor, they were married on 26th June 1887 at Tibshelf and went on to have 7 children. His mother remarried in 1907 at Mansfield to William Upton they lived at 73 High Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. In 1911 the family lived at Main Street, Newton, Alfreton and were shown as William Upton 61 yrs a blacksmith he is living with Hannah Upton 51 yrs and her 3 children, William Adlington 22 yrs a coal miner, George 21 yrs a coal miner, and Walter 19 yrs a coal miner
Lance Corporal Walter Adlington, served with the 11th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, landing in France on 27th August 1915 he was killed in action on 3rd February 1916 whilst serving in the trenches near Rue de- Quesnoy, France. He is buried at Y Farm Military Cemetery, Bois-Grenier,
