Stuart Longsdon Thirlby was born in 1892 he was baptised on 29th July 1892 at St Barnabus, Derby. he was the son of Frank Stuart a solicitor and Annie Longsdon Thirlby née Shaw of Fairholme, Littleover, Derbyshire. Frank Stuart was born in 1869 and Annie Longsdon Shaw was born in 1870 both were born in Derby, they were married on 28th July 1891 at St Barnabus, Derby , they had a further son John Francis Thirlby born 1896 Derby. In 1911 his parents are living at Littleover, Frank Stuart is 42 yrs and a solicitor he is living with his wife Annie Longsdale 41 yrs, also at the address are 2 servants.

Military History

Second Lieutenant Stuart Longsdon Thirlby served with the 6th battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He landed in France on 3rd March 1916, he was killed in action on 22nd March 1918 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial Panel 29 and 30
