Family History

Clifford Derrick was born on 30th September 1886 and was the son of William a baker and Mary Derrick, née Simpson of Keyworth. His father William was born in 1848 in Keyworth and his mother Mary was born in 1849 also in Keyworth, they were married in 1867 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration district, they went on to have the following children , all of whom were born in Keyworth, John b1870, Lillian b1875, Ruth b1877, Harold b1882, John b1883, Arthur b1885, Clifford b1887 and Christopher b1878. His father William died in 1899 aged 52 yrs the death was registered in the Bingham Registration district, his mother Mary died in 1909 aged 61 yrs, the death was registered in the Bingham Registration District In the 1911 census he is shown as Private Royal Marines 24 yrs , single and a member of the crew on board the Battleship, HMS Jupiter, in Weymouth Bay Portland.

Military History

Private Clifford Derrick enlisted on 23rd January 1904, he served with the Portsmouth battalion, Royal Marine Light Infantry. He embarked on 9th May 1915, joined his battalion at Cape Helles, Gallipoli on 30th May 1915. He died of wounds on 25th June 1915 following a gun shot wound to his abdomen and is buried in Lancashire Landing Cemetery grave reference C.81
