Family History

Fred Yull was born at Castle Acre, Norfolk in 1884 and was the son of Elias a colliery furnaceman and Eliza Yull née Smith of 41 Wesley Street, Annesley Woodhouse. Both his parents were born in Castle Acre, Norfolk, his father Elias in 1860 and his mother Eliza Smith in 1859, they were married in 1877 their marriage was recorded in the Freebridge Lynn, Norfolk registration district, they went on to have 9 children sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children all born in Castle Acre were Albert Edward b 1880, William b1882, Fred b1884, Edith b1890, John b1892, Harry b1894 and Lily b1899. Fred Yull married Maria Marson (born 21st July 1886) in 1909 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration area they had children, Louis b1909, Evelyn b1911 and John Henry b1914 they lived at 14 Victoria Terrace, Nuncargate. In 1911 they lived at 28 Smith's Row Annesley Woodhouse Nottinghamshire and were shown as Fred Yull 27 yrs a coal miner he is living with his wife Maria 25yrs and their son Louis 1 year In 1911 his parents are living at 41 Wesley Street, Annesley Woodhouse and are shown as Elias 51 yrs a colliery furnace worker, he is living with his wife Eliza 52 yrs and their children, John 19 yrs a coal miner, Harry 17 yrs a coal miner, Lilley 12 yrs also living at the address is Nellie Gunthorpe 1 yr, a granddaughter. Commencing 12th May 1919 his widow Maria was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week.

Military History

Rifleman Fred Yull enlisted at Nottingham and landed in France on 16th June 1915 he was killed in action on 12th September 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France.
