Cecil Arthur Moulds was born in 1890 he was the son of Archibald John Moulds a farmer in Sproxton, and later a gamekeeper in Cotgrave and Elizabeth Alice Moulds néé Burnham Archibald John was born in 1867 at Sproxton, Elizabeth Alice Burnham was born in 1870 also at Sproxton, they were married on 4th March 1889 at Hull, Yorkshire and had 8 children. Cecil married Gertrude Harriett Marriott (born 13th October 1892) on 04/06/1914 at All Saints Church Cotgrave they lived at 5 Aubrey Ave, Sneinton, Nottingham. Commencing 24th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.
In 1911 he enlisted in the RAMC (Territorial Force), rising to the rank of Corporal. On 22 May 1915 at Nottingham he enlisted in the Regular Army as a RAMC Corporal Clerk he was 25 yrs and 3 months of age and was a clerk . He was discharged due to 'sickness' on 25 October 1916 and died on 22nd April 1918 of tuberculosis and is buried in Cotgrave Churchyard. He saw no service overseas and, as he died after discharge, is not recorded as a casualty of war by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 22 April 1918: MOULDS, on April 21st at Cotgrave, Cecil Arthur, Lance Corporal, RAMC, husband of Gertrude Moulds, son of J and A Moulds. Wife, father, mother, brothers, sisters. In memoriam published 21st April 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “MOULDS. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Cecil Arthur, late Cpl. R.A.M.C., died at Cotgrave, April 21st, 1918. Too dearly loved ever to be forgotten. – Loving wife Gert. “MOULDS. – In loving memory of Arthur, died April 21st, 1918; also Maggie, died March 14th, 1917.
