Military History

Following training Sgt. Allen served in France with 10th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters.. The battalion was involved in the fighting during the Third Battle of Ypres with the 17th Division. Sgt.Allen was killed in action in an attack on Passchendaele on 12/10/1917.His body was never recovered, but his name was commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial.

In memoriam published 11th October 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “ALLEN. — In ever-loving memory of Andrew Allen, killed action October 12th, 1917. Only those that have loved and lost can understand.
