Family History

The Reverend Arthur Wellesley Greeves and his wife, Eliza Maria (née Ellis) had four children, Arthur Frederick Wellesley Greeves born 1891, John born 1893, Alfred born 1894 and Hilda born 1901. The three boys were born in London and Hilda in Ipstones Staffordshire. It was shortly after arriving in Staffs that their mother died early in 1901 aged 43. Both Arthur and John attended the Worksop College and both later joined the Prince of Wales North Staffordshire Regiment. Their father died in 1919.John's effects of £1201 19s 11d were left to his father (Probate 11/2/1918).

Military History

He served as lance corporal in the Inns of Court OTC and was commissioned second lieutenant on 28th February 1917. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial Dud Corner Pas de Calais France.

Extra Information

Also commemorated on the Oakamoor War Memorial Oakamoor Staffordshire. His brother, Arthur Frederick Wellesley Greeves died of wounds on 20/9/1917.
