Family History

The Reverend Arthur Wellesley Greeves and his wife Eliza Maria (née Ellis) had four children, Arthur Frederick Wellesley Greeves born 1891, John born 1893, Alfred born 1894 and Hilda born 1901. The three boys were born in London and Hilda in Ipstones, Staffordshire. It was shortly after arriving in Staffordshire that their mother died early in 1901 aged 43. Both Arthur and John attended Worksop College and both later joined the Prince of Wales North Staffordshire Regiment. Their father died in 1919.His effects of £781 14 shillings and 4 pence were left to his father Arthur Wellesley Greeves a clerk (Probate 11/2/1918 at Lichfield).

Military History

Arthur was Gazetted temporary second lieutenant on 26th September 1916. He was wounded on 20th September 1917 and taken to no 133 Field ambulance where he died. He is buried in La Clytte Military Cemetery Belgium Grave Reference: III A 9

Extra Information

He is also commemorated on the Oakamoor War Memorial Oakamoor Staffordshire. His brother John Greeves died of wounds on the 1st July 1917.
