Leonard Pike

Leonard Pike was born in 1893 at Nottingham and was the son of Frances E Pike (b. Mansfield) who was widowed by the time of the 1901 census. She had been married for 18 years and had had seven children of whom only six were still living at the time of the 1911 census. Five children are named on the census between 1901 and 1911; Clara Isabella, Arthur, James, Ada and Leonard. In 1901 Frances was living at 19 Parliament Street in the ecclesiastical parish of Holy Trinity. She was working as a lace clipper and five children were in the house on the night of the census; Clara (18, sewing machinist), Arthur (17, page boy at theatre), James (16, working in a lace factory), Ada (14, errand girl) and Leonard (8). Ten years later in 1911 Frances was living at 24 Hedderly Street, Nottingham. In the household were her unmarried daughter, Clara, and her sons Arthur (now described as an 'invalid') and Leonard. Also in the house was her widowed daughter Ada Welsh and Ada's son, Ralph (4, b. Manchester). Leonard married Florrie (sic) Belshaw (born 6th August 1893) in 1914 (registered Nottingham Apr/May/Jun) they lived at 10 Portland Place, Coalpit Lane, Nottingham, they had a daughter Frances Ada born 26th June 1914, Florence was named as his sole legatee. His widow Florence was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 5th November 1917.
