Family History

He was the son of Thomas (d.1891) and Maria (née Helms) Olyott and the brother of Thomas Charles (b.1882), Harry Helms (b.1886) and Grace Margaret (b.1889) Olyott of Church Road, Bracknell. In 1911, John lodged at 50, Sherwood Street, and later at 17, Bluecoat Street (both Nottingham) with William and Ellen Froggatt and their daughters Nellie and Mabel.

Nottingham Evening Post, Roll of Honour September 29th 1917: 'OLYOTT. - John Barnes (Jack), NF.,17, Bluecoat Street and Bracknell, Berks, ten years with Fred Henry. A noble life laid down - Nellie, Mother and Mabel.' John's brother Thomas Charles Olyott (556585) was killed in action 12/4/1918 serving with 423rd Field Coy Royal Engineers. Aged 35, he was married to Ethel Sarah (nėe Lewis) Olyott and was the father of Thomas Edward, Mary Grace and Joan Ethel Olyott. He is buried in Lapugnoy Military Cemetery, France, Grave Reference: IX B 16. Harry Helms Olyott (DM/165168) enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps surviving the war. He died in 1973 aged 87. Anoher John Barnes Olyott (1870-1934), uncle to the three brothers, enlisted (2069) with the Royal Defence Corps 11/2/1915 and was discharged 11/2/1918.
