Family History

William was the son of George Hutton and Gwenllian Blanche Dixon (née) Joseph. They were married in Essex in 1896 and had two children William and Donald. Following George’s death aged twenty eight Gwenllian lived with her parents in Brecon.

Military History

He was a member of the Officer Training Corps in the Inns of Court and was gazetted 3rd May 1915 temporary second lieutenant. He is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, Somme.

Extra Information

An extract from 'The Cuthbertian (college magazine) December 1916 issue no 4 W. F. T. Dixon, 2nd Lieut. ,Sherwoods, who was only just nineteen, was killed in action while rallying his men at Trones Wood, on July 20th. The majority of his men were killed at the same time. Though so young he had already made his mark as a smart and promising officer, and died amid circumstances of great gallantry
