Family History

Sydney Charles was born in 1886 in Peterborough and was the son of Thomas a railway guard and Laura Pearson née Gardener. His family originated in Peterborough and moved up to Nottingham between 1886 and 1889 , his father Thomas and his mother Laura Gardener were both born in 1862 in Peterborough, they were married in 1884 also in Peterborough, their two sons Thomas Horace b1884 and Sidney Charles b1886 were born in Peterborough , however the birth of their only daughter Laura b1889 was in Netherfield, Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 125 Victoria Road Netherfield, and are shown as Thomas 49 yrs head of the family a railway guard in a goods depot, he is living with his wife Laura and two of their children Sydney Charles 25 yrs a clerk in a brewery office and Laura 22 yrs a grocery shop keeper. His eldest son Thomas Horace has left home , he has married Frances Ann Haynes, they were married in 1907, their marriage is recorded in the Basford Registration area, they have a son Sydney Albert who had been born in 1910 in Nottingham. in the 1911 census they are living at 74 Godfrey Street, Netherfield , Thomas is 26 yrs and a railway engine stoker. Sydney's probate was administered in Nottingham on 4th December 1916 it shows him as Sydney Charles Pearson of 125 Victoria Road, Netherfield a Private in His Majestys Army died 15th September 1916 in France, his effects of £245 4shillings and 9 pence were left to Thomas Pearson a railway guard.

Military History

Sydney enlisted in Derby, stating he had been born in Peterborough and that he was residing in Netherfield, Nottingham. He served with the service number 39861 in the Lincolnshire Regiment , later transferring to the 7/8th battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action on 15th September 1916, he has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France
