Harold Mumby was the only son of 5 children born to Frank and Annie Sophia Mumby. He was born in 1898 at Winterton, Lincolnshire. After his birth, the family soon moved on to live at Roxby with Risby and 10 years later were resident at Haxey, Lincolnshire.
Harold was attested on the 20th June 1915 at Haxel, Lincolnshire and received his medical four days later. In April 1916, his battalion moved to Ireland and took part in actions against rebellion. In January 1917 he returned to England and moved to France on the 23rd Feb. Whilst in France, he was wounded twice. He spent over a month in hospital from 15th Feb 1917 and again on 16th April 1918 for 51 days. It was not long after this that he was killed on the 25th August 1918. His personal possessions were sent to his mother, Mrs Annie Mumby, Newington, Misson , Bawtry. He was commemorated on the Adanac Military Cemetery, Miraumont, France
