Family History

Osbourne was born in 1882 at Misson, he was the son of the late John a farmer and Annie Atkinson née Needham, of Misson John was born in 1846 he died in 1912 aged 66 yrs, Annie Needham was born in 1852 both were born at Misson they were married on 14th July 1873 at Misson and had a further child Clara born 1880. In 1911 the family are living at Missom village John 65 yrs is a farmer, he is living with his wife Annie 59 yrs and their 2 children, Clara 31 yrs working at home and Osbourne 29 yrs a labourer.

Military History

Private Osbourne Atkinson enlisted Retford in the Royal Army Ordinance Corps for the duration of the war on 22nd January 1916 giving his age as 34 yrs and 10 months . He was on home territory until 20th August 1916 and then was sent to France. After a few months on the 4th of November he was granted leave until 10th January 1917, after which, he was back in France. Sometime in early 1917, he transferred to the 16th Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters, number 40274, he was killed in action, 22nd June 1917, by German shellfire whilst serving in the trenches near the Yser canal bank, Belgium.
