Family History

William Adams (junior) was born in 1893 at Millifield, Northamptonshire, he was the son of William Adams (senior) a railway labourer and Emmalean Adams née Hamey, of 13 Stone Lane, Peterborough. His father William (senior) was born in 1862 at Denton Huntingdonshire, his mother Emmalean Hamey was born in 1866 at Dogsthorpe, Northamptonshire, they were married on 17th February 1888 a St Pauls Church, Peterborough, they went on to have 8 children, sadly one of whom died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 13 Stone Lane, Peterborough, William (senior) 49 yrs is a railway labourer, he is living with his wife Emmalean 45 yrs and their 7 children, including William (junior) 18 yrs a railway labourer. William Adams (junior) married Margaret Gore (born 24th July 1887) at Mansfield in 1914, they lived at 10 Gladstone Street, Mansfield. Commencing 24th May 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week.

Military History

Private William Adams enlisted at Peterborough, e served with the 1st battalion Northamptonshire regiment, landing in France on 30t August 1914 he was killed in action on 17th September 1914, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, France.
