James was born in 1880 the son of Thomas Cleghorn an innkeeper and Hannah Cleghorn, of Newcastle-on-Tyne, In 1881 they lived at The Goat Inn 338 Westgate Road Newcastle upon Tyne. His father was the inn keeper.

Military History

James Cleghorn enlisted at Newcastle and served with the 2/5th battalion Yorkshire Regiment. He died at Oaklands Military Hospital and is buried in St Nicholas churchyard, Littleborough.
