Family History

Son of William and Elizabeth Cottrell, of Finsbury Park, London; The family were living in Islington in the 1891 census at 100 Palmerston Rd. William had a younger brother Francis. His father William was a bricklayers labourer. By 1901 the family had moved to 125 Andover Rd in Islington. They had also increased in size with the addition of daughter Elizabeth and son Albert. The family moved to 22 Moreland Street, Finsbury Park by 1911 although William was no longer living with them. He married Beatrice Edith Winifred Fox 12 June 1910 at St Marks church Islington. At the time of his death she was living at Nottingham Rd., Burton Joyce, Notts.

Military History

William enlisted at Holloway as a Private in the 7th (City of London) Battalion, the London Regiment. He died of his wounds and is buried St Sever Cemetery extension Rouen, France. He was eligible for the British and Victory medals
