Thomas Highfield was born in 1882 and was the son of the late John a coachman and groom and the late Sarah Ann Highfield née Dooley of Church Lawton, Stoke-on-Trent. John was born in 1834 at Audley, Staffordshire, he died in 1895 Sarah Ann Dooley was born in 1846 at Carnarvon, Wales, she died in 1891,married on 28th May 1871 at Bathomley, Cheshire they had 8 children. In the 1901 and 1911 census Thomas was a Footman in the household of William McDonnell, Earl of Antrim at Glenarm, County Antrim. His probate was proven in London on 1st November 1915 and shows him as Thomas Highfield H.M. Army 6th (service battalion) Royal Irish Regiment Victoria barracks, Belfast Ireland. His effects of £373 15shillings and nine pence were left to William Gallagher butler.
Corporal Thomas Highfield enlisted at Larne, Co Antrim and entered the Balkans Theatre of War 10 July 1915. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 9th August 1915 , having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial in Turkey which includes those who fell at Gallipoli. He was eligible for the 1915 star, British and Victory medals
