Family History

Sydney George Taylor was born in 1879 at Nottingham, he was the son of John a rate collector and Annie Sarah Taylor née Goodwin of Mill Gate, East Bridgford. Sydney married his wife Jane Elizabeth Fishburn, on 25th February 1902 at Stockton registrar office, Durham. he was living at South Parade North Allerton at the time of the marriage and he gave his occupation as that of a chemist assistant. They went on to have 2 children, Mildred Annie born 30th March 1904 and Margaret Alice born 27th May 1910. The family later moved to East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. In the 1911 census the family are living at East Bridgford village and are shown as Sydney John 31 yrs living on private means, he is living with his wife Jane Elizabeth 29 yrs and their children, Mildred Ann 7 yrs of age and Margaret Alice 10 months old. On the 6th February 1917 his wife Jane Elizabeth Taylor petitions at the High Court for divorce from her husband on the grounds of adultery between 1911-1915 and assault.

Military History

Private Sydney John Taylor enlisted at Southwell whilst residing at East Bridgford, he served with the 4th special reserve battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action of 30th November 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Loverval panel 7.
