Harold Owen was born in 1892 at Arnold and the son of Thomas a coal miner and Mary Ann Owen née Worton of Calverton Road, Arnold. His father Thomas Owen was born in 1853 at Arnold, his mother Mary Ann Worton was born in 1854 also at Arnold. They were married in 1873, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have the following children, John b1874, Emma b1883, Kate b1885 and Harold b 1892,all of them were born in Arnold. His father Thomas died in 1902 aged 50 yrs , his death was recorded in the Nottingham Registration District, his mother Mary Ann died in 1908 aged 54 yrs her death was recorded in the Basford Registration District. In the 1911 Census he is shown living with his brother in law Harry Langton at Duke Street, Arnold, he is shown as single and a grocers shop assistant.
He enlisted into the Lincolnshire Regiment at Hucknall and after initial training was posted to the 7th battalion of the regiment. The 7th Battalion The Lincolnshire Regiment was formed at Lincoln in September 1914 as a part of the second batch of “Lord Kitchener” battalions. They moved to Wool where they joined the 51st Brigade of the 17th Division. In June 1915 the battalion was stationed at Winchester and it was from here that they went to France, landing at Boulogne on the 14th July 1915.He was killed in action in the Ypres salient on 13th November 1915, He is buried in the Menin Road South Cemetery, Belgium
