Harry was born in 1883 at Nottingham and lived at Arnold the son of Frederick George and Sabina Johnson, he had 8 siblings. Harry married Florence Johnson in 1905 at Nottingham, they lived at 38 James Street, Arnold, Nottingham, they went on to have the following children, Harry born December 1906, Samuel Joseph born August 1908, Harold born November 1910 and Florence born April 1914. In the 1911 Census he and his family are shown living at Furlong Street in Arnold. having been married for six years he had at this time 3 children, Harry 4 yrs, Samuel 2 yrs, and Harold 4 months, and went on to have a further child before he enlisted, He worked in the lace industry as a lace hand. Following his death his widow Florence was awarded a pension of 28 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 11th June 1917.
Private Harry Johnson enlisted into the York and Lancaster regiment at Nottingham in October 1915, and went with them to France. In March 1916 he was wounded and died during the battle of Morval on 25th September 1916. His name is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial on the Somme
