James was born at Arnold in 1884, the son of William a colliery banksman and Mary Huskey of Calverton Road, Arnold. His father William was born in 1852 at Sutton in Ashfield, his mother Mary was born in 1851 at Arnold. They had the following children, Ellen b1872 James b1884, Kate b1888, Fanny b1893 and John Henry b1898. The family was living at 41 Calverton Road, Arnold in the 1911 Census although James is not shown with them on the night the census was taken. He worked at the Sherwood laundry.
Private James Huskey enlisted at Arnold into the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, his local regiment with regimental number 47407 and that at some time later he was transferred into the Kings Liverpool Regiment, who posted him to their 2/7th battalion. On the 30th September 1918, the battalion were on the Proville – Marquion Line, west of Fontaines, and had taken up positions in La Folie Wood. The wood was shelled throughout the day and several casualties were caused. The 2/6th battalion attempted to attack and capture a trench to the west of Proville, but were held up. At 11am orders were received from Brigade for the battalion to attack the trench and village of Proville and it was during this attack that he was killed. He is buried at Cantaing British Cemetery, France.
