John lived at 32 Portland Street,Daybrook he was born in 1877 and educated in Crewe. In the 1901 census we find him living on Portland Street, with the Fisher family as a boarder, he is shown as 24 years of age, single and a bricklayers labourer he eventually worked for Home Brewery in the buildings department, He married his wife Sarah Ann Huner (born 1880) in 1901, their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at Pleasant Row, Daybrook and had a son Joseph Henry born 1906. Following his death his widow Sarah Ann was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week which commenced on 21st April 1919.
Private John James Hart enlisted at Derby in 1916 and was posted to the mounted military foot police service number P/8280 but eventually was transferred to the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers and went to France in April 1918. He was wounded in action and taken to hospital in Rouen, France where he died from his wounds on 3rd October 1918, He is buried at Mount Huon Cemetery, Le Treport,France.
