Frank was born in 1895 in the village of Woodborough, just to the north of the city of Nottingham, the son of Hosea a farm foreman and Annie Wright Eastgate née Cordy. His father was born in 1863 at Brant Broughton, Lincolnshire and his mother Annie Wright Cordy was born in 1864 at Caythorpe, Lincolnshire. They married in 1882 at Southwell and had 5 children, two of whom died in infancy or childhood prior to 1911. Their surviving children were John T b1888 Shelford, Nottinghamshire, Frank b1895 Woodborough, Rose Kathleen b1901 Clifton Nottingham. In 1901 the family was living at Village Street, Clifton, Nottingham. In 1911 the family was living at Laneham in Lincolnshire. At some point Frank moved to live on Spout Lane in Arnold. On 19th May 1919 , his mother Annie completed Army form 5080 giving details of Frank's next of kin stating she was living at 5 Spout Lane Arnold with her daughter Rose Kathleen. Frank’s father was deceased and Frank's brother William was living in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada .
Frank was called up on 28th April 1916 at Hucknall. He stated he had previously military service in the 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters . On 1st May 1916 he was posted into the North Staffordshire Regiment. On 3rd September 1916 he left England to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in Mesopotamia. On the 19th December whilst the 7th North Staffordshire Battalion were advancing that they came under heavy artillery, machine gun and sniper fire. Frank was a casualty of this advance. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial Iraq.
