Lawrence Bertram Atkinson

Lawrence was born in Arnold in 1889, the son of James a coal miner and Elizabeth Atkinson of Morris Yard, Front Street, Arnold, Nottinghamshire. His father was born in 1864 in Arnold , his mother Elizabeth was born in 1869 in Willenhall, Staffordshire, they were married in Arnold in 1886 and went on to have 12 children in total , however 7 sadly died in infancy prior to 1911 , their 5 surviving children were: - Rowland James b 1888 Hucknall Torkard, Lawrence Bertram b1889 Arnold, Florence b1892 Arnold, Lorenza b1897 Bulwell and Winifred b1908 Arnold. In 1911 Lawrence was a serving soldier he was 21 yrs of age and is serving with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters who are in barracks at Crownhill Fort , Crownhill, Devon. His family were living on Front Street, Arnold and were shown as James 47 yrs a colliery labourer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 43 yrs a seamstress, and their 4 children , Rowland 23 yrs a collier/hewer, Florence 19 yrs a laundry hand, Lorenza a collier above ground and Winifred 3 yrs of age
