Family History

Frederick Johnson was born in 1893 at Derby he was the son of Samuel Johnson a joiner and Mary Ann Johnson née Howard of 30 Leman Street, Derby. His father Samuel was born in 1867 at Derby, his mother Mary Ann Howard was born in 1866 at Derby, they were married on 27th May 1888 at St Lukes Church, Derby, they went on to have 10 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 30 Leman Street, Derby, Samuel 44 yrs is a joiner, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 45 yrs and 6 of their children including Frederick 18 yrs a brewery labourer.

Military History

Private Frederick Johnson enlisted at Derby and served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 17th July 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France
