Arthur Swinscoe

Arthur Swinscoe was born in 1894 at Carlton and was the son of Thomas and Lavinia Swinscoe née Buttery of Carlton. His father Thomas was born in 1865 at Carlton, he died in 1898 aged 33 yrs. His mother Lavinia Buttery was born in 1873 at Walsall she died in in 1902 aged 29 yrs. They were married in 1892, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district. They went on to a further son Henry born 1892 at Carlton. Following the death of their parents both Arthur and Henry went to live with their uncle and aunt, John and Elizabeth Brittle, in Carlton. In the 1911 census Arthur is living at 21 Worth Street, Carlton; he is shown as being 17 yrs of age single and a colliery labourer and the nephew of John Brittle 50 yrs a house painter and his wife Elizabeth Brittle 48 yrs. Probate was proven on 24th October 1919 at Nottingham and shows him as Arthur Swinscoe 21 North (sic) Street, Carlton, Private in H.M. Army died 15th October 1918 at the Royal Prisoner of War Hospital, Berlin, effects £112, 19 shillings and 10 pence; administration awarded to Henry Swinscoe assistant railway shunter.
